The Lennon Family of North Carolina

John Lennon was first documented by a Crown Grant of 640 acres in Bladen County, NC, in 1743.  This book is a record of his descendants.  The most populous names are Lennon, Singletary, Freeman, Kelly, Pait, Brown, Ellis, Peterson, Jones, Edwards, Yarbrough, Davis, Hester, Smith, Ward and Gore.

Information for this history comes from many sources, including personal interviews with family members, detailed study of family Bibles and other family records, church and school records, census records, wills and deeds, court records, military records, cemetery records, immigration records, examination of records in archives, libraries, on the Internet, CompuServe and America on Line Genealogy Fora, many Internet sites. and every other known source that could provide a clue.  It has been a long and tedious project and has taken many hundreds of pleasurable hours.  It is far from complete, and will never be, but we wanted to publish an account of the Lennon family and share it with others before it could possibly be lost.

This is not an account of the successes and failures of the humans who constitute the Lennon family, but is simply a genealogical listing of those members.  When we found significant biographical information about an individual, we included a brief sketch.  We have made every effort to provide all of the information we could obtain as accurately as possible.  We know, however, that there are many errors and omissions.  We hope that those who view our work will let us know about errors and omissions and will send as much new information as possible so that a future edition will be more complete and accurate.  Also, we hope to include photographs in a future edition.

We have made no judgments about individuals and have made no effort to identify and exclude "undesirables."  In fact, in retrospect, we are quite pleased that none appeared.  We have listed everyone whom we were able to identify as being a living or dead member of the greater family.  We hope that you, as a viewer of this publication, will send us information identifying more members of the Lennon family.
